Graduate jobs - know what's out there
The internet offers you access to information about employers and job vacancies as well as the chance to send CVs or fill in application forms online. You can:
- Search for job vacancies
- Find out about prospective employers
- Register to receive news of suitable vacancies
- Post your CV for employers and agencies to read
- Receive incoming e-mails about jobs
- Join newsgroups and interactive job sites
- Search for information world wide
However you must remember that not all jobs are advertised in this way. You are best advised to use it as a supplement to your other job hunting activities. Do not rely on the net as your sole job search technique. Many employers are still using traditional places to advertise jobs such as newspapers, journals and through CAS.
- Access can be unrestricted, be cautious about where you post personal information
- Many text based systems look for keywords, find out as much as you can, make sure you touch the spot.
- Check the specific guidelines. Many job boards or newsgroups sites have different rules and procedures.
