Novotel 50 Arundel Gate (0114) 278 1781 Not the most groundbreaking of places, but it's comfy. Week £79 Weekend £69.75

Budget

Nether Edge Hotel 21-23 Montgomery Road (0114) 255 4363 Very reasonably priced, unless you're "entertaining", which you shouldn't really be before the big day. Mind you, it might improve your luck. Single room £30, Double room £40

Riverside Court Hotel 2-10 Nursery Street (0114) 273 1962 Cheap and remarkably cheerful. Breakfast is a mere £3.50, which cheered me considerably, as I've tucked into my fourth. Single room £29, Double room £39
